About
Bayer Consumer Care
Some
of the most trusted and recognizable brands in the world today come
from the Bayer Consumer Care portfolio of over-the-counter products.
They include the company's flagship brand, Bayer Aspirin, Aleve,
One-A-Day and Flinstones vitamins, Alka-Seltzer Plus, Alka Seltzer,
Midol and Phillips' Milk of Magnesia.
Bayer's Consumer Care Division was created in 1994, following the
acquisition of the North American over-the-counter drug business
of Sterling Winthrop, which expanded the company's product portfolio.
The acquisition returned to Bayer the North American rights to Bayer
Aspirin, as well as rights to the Bayer name and trademark in North
America. It also led to the U.S. company's name change in April
1995 from Miles Inc. to Bayer Corporation.
Shortly thereafter, Bayer Corporation, headquartered in Pittsburgh,
established the property on Columbia Road in Morristown, New Jersey,
as its newly formed Division headquarters. An existing unoccupied
building was razed, and a new, $28 million facility constructed.
Overall, this Bayer division has approximately 1,200 U.S. employees
with a Morristown staff assigned to product research and development,
marketing, sales, and administration. Employees at production facilities
in Elkhart, Indiana and Myerstown, Pennsylvania--and field sales
personnel in a half dozen satellite offices spread across the country--account
for the balance of Bayer Consumer Care personnel in the U.S.
In May 2000, Bayer Group, based in Leverkusen, Germany, also named
the Morristown location headquarters for its Worldwide Business
Group Consumer Care, which has more than 5,000 employees around
the globe.
